Lindsey is in her 10th year teaching and currently serves as the UFEA President. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Illinois State University She began her union involvement as a building representative and served 4 years as the Vice President of UFEA. Her husband, Lewis, also works in Unit 5 as a paraprofessional and together they have 3 year old twins.
Julie has dedicated the last 22 years to teaching in Unit #5 at both Normal Community High School and Normal West High School. She earned Master’s degrees in History and Education Administration and Foundations, as well as her Bachelor’s degree, at Illinois State University. She is dedicated to advocating for the rights of students and teachers in public schools.
Jarrod Rackauskas is a science teacher at Normal West High School. He is in his 11th year teaching and over the years has enjoyed the challenge of coaching various sports and sponsoring various clubs. Jarrod is excited to share UFEA’s amazing story!
Amanda is in her third year of teaching as a bilingual support teacher at Evans Junior High. Along with advising various clubs and activities at school, she is excited to be a union representative.
Logan is in her 19th year teaching and currently serves as a building representative at Parkside Junior High School. She began her union involvement as a building representative 4 years ago. She has two Master’s Degrees from Illinois State in Curriculum and Instruction and Administration. She also has her National Board Certification in Early Adolescence Science. Her husband works at State Farm and she has two boys who attend Towanda Elementary School.
Kristen is in her 10th year of teaching Business in Unit 5 and currently serves as a building representative at Parkside Junior High School. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Illinois State. Her husband works at Gordon Food Service and she has two kids, a five year old son and two year old daughter.
Joan Fee is a school counselor at NCHS and has been since 2001-2002 school year. Students with last names at the end of the alphabet as well as the English Language Learners are assigned to her. Her degrees are from South Dakota State University-Spanish (Go Jacks!) and Kansas State University-School Counseling. She has been a building rep for two years and will continue for an additional two years.
Claire will be beginning her 6th year in the fall of 2018 at NCHS teaching in the Special Education Department. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Illinois State University. She began her union involvement as a building representative and now is in her 4th year as a rep at NCHS. She is also serving as the new teacher chair on the executive committee.
Peg Modglin is a Speech Language Pathologist and the District Chairperson for SLP’s. She has been with Unit 5 for 15 years and previously worked in the medical field. She is also active in the Speech Language and Hearing Associations.
Karl is entering his 18th year in public education. He has taught Spanish in a variety of settings ranging from the middle school to the university level. He taught bilingual fourth grade in the district for three years. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Illinois Education Association and the National Education Association. He concluded his second term as president of UFEA and returns to the classroom this year. He is a father of two and a husband. He enjoys running, eating, and reading.
Ben Matthews is a native of Bloomington-Normal. He taught at Prairieland Elementary School from 1999 until 2007. While teaching, he served UFEA in a variety of roles, including as a member of the Bargaining and Grievance Committees, and as Vice President and President. He has been the IEA Region 14 UniServ Director since the fall of 2007. As UD, he works with IEA locals in Unit 5 and Bloomington District 87, supporting our local unions and leaders, assisting with bargaining and enforcing our contracts, providing training and expertise to help us be more effective, and advocating for and representing members.
Martha Fritcher is the IEA Associate Staff in the Bloomington office. Martha is often the first face members see when they visit the office, and often the first voice the hear if they call. She assists our Uniserv Director with his work, and also provides a lot of support to our full-time release president in the office.
