The Unit Five Education Association annually awards three scholarships to individuals pursuing a career in education. UFEA annually awards 2 separate $1000 scholarships to Unit 5 students, and a $1000 scholarship to a high school senior or college student whose parent is a UFEA member. This year, UFEA also began giving a $1000 scholarship to a student in need of financial assistance who plans to continue their education at a 4-year college, 2-year college, trade school, or in the military.
Phyllis Rosenbaum Scholarships
The Phyllis Rosenbaum Scholarship is awarded to two high school seniors — one at Normal Community and one at Normal West — who will pursue a career in education. This year’s Phyllis Rosenbaum Scholarship winners were Juliana Johnson from NCHS and Lillian Ridinger from NCWHS.
UFEA Scholarship
The UFEA Scholarship is awarded to the child of a UFEA member who is a high school senior or college student. The 2020 UFEA Scholarhip winner is Addie Smith, daughter of UFEA members Hillary and Jason Ruyle. Addie just completed her freshman year at Belmont University.
The Need Scholarship
The Need Scholarship is awarded to a Unit 5 senior who demonstrates the need for financial assistance and plans to continue their education after high school at a college, a trade school, or in the military. The 2020 Need Scholarship winner is Hunter Buck from NCHS.
Scholarship Winner Videos
Due to the COVID-19 School Closures, the awards ceremonies at Normal Community and Normal West were held online. UFEA President Lindsey Dickinson presented the UFEA Scholarship winners by video, which you can view below or on the UFEA Facebook page.
